POSITION SUMMARY
A leading Japanese food trading company is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement operations at its Miami, Florida branch. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with experience in purchasing, vendor relations, and team leadership—particularly within the Japanese foodservice or import/export industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with business goals and operational efficiency.
* Source and negotiate with vendors to expand product offerings, including trending and high-demand items.
* Lead and mentor the purchasing team, providing performance oversight and constructive feedback.
* Analyze supplier performance and conduct market research to evaluate competitiveness and industry trends.
* Review and process purchase orders accurately; coordinate tastings and product evaluations.
* Collaborate with internal departments to manage inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment.
* Resolve issues related to product defects, delays, or discrepancies; stay current on procurement technologies and compliance.
* Participate in inventory counts, company events, and travel frequently for vendor visits and industry engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
* Minimum 5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in Japanese food distribution.
* At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
* Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese (read/write/speak/listen).
* Strong organizational, leadership, and analytical skills.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office; ERP experience preferred (Sage, AS400, or Microsoft Business Central).
* Familiarity with Japanese food products, non-food items, and liquors is highly preferred.
* Must pass the Sake Adviser course within 1 year of employment.
* Ability to travel frequently for business purposes.
BASE SALARY USD66,000-85,000 (DOE)
