POSITION TITLE Senior Principal Engineer – R&D
POSITION SUMMARY
A leading-edge storage design center is seeking a highly accomplished professional to join its R&D team focused on Hard Disk Drive (HDD) technologies. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation storage solutions in a collaborative and innovative environment. The ideal candidate will have a distinguished track record in the HDD industry and deep expertise in areal density-related technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the implementation and integration of areal density-related technologies
Collaborate closely with an R&D team based in Japan to integrate new Head/Media/Read/Write technologies
Coordinate with manufacturing teams and suppliers of Head, Media, and Read Channel components
Drive failure analysis, prototyping, evaluation, and process improvement initiatives
Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies and plans
Build proof-of-concept systems and prototypes in collaboration with engineering teams
Evaluate performance metrics including areal density, thermal stability, read/write reliability, and lifespan
Refine designs and processes based on test results
Engage in cross-functional collaboration and supplier coordination as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s or PhD preferred
15+ years of directly relevant experience in HDD technologies
Strong fundamentals in areal density-related manufacturing processes
Proven experience integrating new Head/Media/Read/Write technologies
Excellent communication skills
Comfortable working in a collaborative, co-located team environment
SALARY USD184,000-250,000
