POSITION SUMMARY
A well-established corporate legal team is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Paralegal to support a wide range of legal and administrative functions. This role will assist with contract management, compliance tracking, litigation coordination, and interdepartmental legal support. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, legal document proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead compliance risk assessments
Identify and evaluate regulatory risks related to food products, assess existing controls, and determine residual risks to ensure full compliance with applicable laws.
Oversee vendor and product audits
Coordinate third-party and customer audits, ensuring that suppliers and products meet internal standards and federal/state regulations.
Ensure regulatory-compliant labeling
Develop and verify product labels including ingredient statements, allergen declarations, nutrition facts, and health claims, in accordance with government standards.
Support product development with regulatory expertise
Provide technical guidance during the innovation and purchasing phases to ensure food safety and quality compliance for both national and private brand products.
Maintain regulatory documentation systems
Organize and update compliance files, databases, and tracking systems to ensure accuracy and readiness for audits or inspections.
Collaborate across departments
Work closely with product category teams, sales, logistics, and operations to align compliance efforts and drive cross-functional success.
Stay current with food industry regulations
Monitor updates from FDA, USDA, GMP, and HACCP, and apply changes to internal policies and product documentation as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 6 years of experience in compliance, law, or risk management (preferably in the food industry)
Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Japanese
At least 4 years of direct supervisory experience
Experience managing cross-functional teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Oracle ERP
Knowledge of FDA/USDA regulations preferred
Understanding of food ingredients, chemistry, processing, and functionality
Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical regulations clearly
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
Flexibility to work across time zones and be on-call during irregular hours
