POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of Product Development and R&D is a strategic leader responsible for driving innovation, ensuring product excellence, and aligning R&D initiatives with broader business goals. This role oversees the full product lifecycle while fostering cross-functional collaboration and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, business acumen, and a passion for delivering consumer-centric solutions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set strategic direction for product development and R&D aligned with company growth

  • Oversee formulation, sensory evaluation, and regulatory compliance

  • Build long-term innovation pipelines and technology roadmaps

  • Develop business plans including market trends, competitor analysis, and financial metrics

  • Lead and mentor high-performing teams

  • Design and develop new products based on consumer insights and market trends

  • Formulate and optimize products considering functionality, cost, scalability, and sustainability

  • Support commercialization and scale-up processes

  • Ensure compliance with FDA, Prop 65, and other regulations

  • Create and validate nutritional facts, ingredient statements, and product claims

  • Scout new technologies and improve manufacturing processes

  • Prepare reports and approval documents for headquarters

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in CPG product development, including 3+ years in leadership

  • Experience in product development, quality, or technical operations

  • Proven success in launching products and leading cross-functional initiatives

  • Strong knowledge of formulation, US regulatory compliance, and manufacturing

  • Proficiency in data analysis

  • Business-level Japanese language skills (read, write, speak) strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Food Science or a related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification holder

  • Experience working with international suppliers
