POSITION SUMMARY
Japanese global trading and investment company in North America is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join its Houston office. This position supports both the Energy and New Energy divisions, contributing to financial operations, project development, and administrative functions. The role is ideal for candidates with a background in accounting and an interest in supporting innovative energy initiatives such as hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon capture technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with US GAAP and internal policies
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, including journal entries and reconciliations
Manage accounts payable/receivable, invoice processing, and collections
Provide full accounting support, including tax matters, for a subsidiary in the New Energy division
Handle 1099-related tax withholdings
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Support general office administration (supplies, vendors, facilities, mail)
Process employee expense reports
Coordinate with headquarters and other offices as needed
Participate in special projects and ad hoc tasks
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
3+ years of accounting experience
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle)
Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Excellent communication skills in English (Japanese is a plus)
Ability to work in a multicultural environment
Experience in Japanese or international business settings is a plus
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Bilingual (English/Japanese) preferred
Experience with intercompany transactions and international reporting
LOCATION AND HOURS
Houston, TX
Full-time (5 days/week)
Hybrid work: Minimum 3 days in office, 2 days remote (subject to internal policy)
SALARY
$70,000-$80,000/year (DOE)
